Temporary Friends - POQ Challenge #5

She said I was her friend,
the rock for which she could stand.
It turns out all I was to be
was a mat for her feet.

I was her chariot,
for her to always drive.
I was her slave,
never to disobey her will.

If I spoke out,
a right that should be given,
from her would I face harsh wrath.
I would feel the bitter
sting of her anger.

I did not know the mud
with which she dragged me through.
I thought it was normal,
since I had no once else.

But eventually a child
must learn to stand.
And from there will it
learn to walk,
to break free from stillness.

I learned the truth,
and so I left her behind.
She threw it in my face,
and showed me her dark side.

What she did and said after,
it made me realize the person
I had actually tried to trust.
I never regretted my choice of moving on.

Without her to hold me back,
I became quite strong.
I would find the friend I truly
needed down the road.

So I must, quite honestly, thank her.
For all the hurt she caused.
By holding back at the beginning,
she made me grow in wisdom later on.
Part #5 of self-made challenge for this website: www.poemofquotes.com/articles/…

------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: This is a different friend than the one I mentioned in "The Friend that Never Left" - this person came before her. (This is evident in the titles. These two people could not be the same. This is because the friend in that poem is still my friend. Hence the title"The Friend that NEVER Left". However, the friend in this poem is no longer such. I broke off ties a few years back. This is why the title is "TEMPORARY Friends".

As I said in the poem, I do honestly feel thankful towards her. I feel no sense of anger towards her at all. I only feel pity for her in that she did not know how to properly treat someone who tried so hard to care for her.

Enjoy! :D

I'm glad you opened up and let this so called "friend" go. She sounds like a terrible person, you don't want to surround yourself with people like that. They tend to drag us down or get us into trouble.
